GRACE AND TRUTH

"And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth." (John 1:14) The word declares in John 1:14 that when the Word of God became flesh in the person of Jesus Christ our Lord, who was manifested as the only begotten of the Father, the word further notes that He was "full of grace and truth." But what is the relationship between grace and truth, especially as it applies in this context. First of all, note that the Greek word translated into "and" is "kai" which also translates into "even" which is mostly used to lay emphasis or explain further. Thus, the word of God saying that the word became flesh and we saw His glory as the only begotten of the Father "full of grace and truth" better translates "full of grace even truth" which implies that the grace of God which is Jesus Christ our Lord in us, is also the very truth of God in us, just as Jesus Christ Himself said in John 14:6 that "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life." Thus, the grace of God is the truth of God and we grow in that grace by growing in the truth which is the Word of God or the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. And this why Apostle Peter said "But grow in grace and (even ) in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ..." (2 Pet 3:18) Amen!
