"But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons." (Hebrews 12:8 KJV)

We saw yesterday that the hallmark or main characteristic of a son is his ability to endure chastisement or discipline. And our devotional text for today strengthens this argument by declaring that if we are without chastisement or discipline then we are not sons but bastards.

Thus, a son is not merely somebody that has been given birth to by another person, but one that is able to submit unto the leadership or authority of another who is appointed by God as his Father.

Thus, any child that does not submit to the authority of the one that gave birth to Him is not a son but a bastard. And a bastard is simply a child who does not have a father or a child who does not know his father. And the bastard not having a father or not knowing a father implies that he cannot enjoy the blessings that come from a father.

And this is why Galatians 4:1-3 says that if the heir does not grow from childhood into sonship, he will not differ from a servant though he is lord of all. Thus, if the heir does not come to the level where he can submit to the authority of the father and endure discipline from him, he will be as one that does not have a father at all and so will merely be treated as servant or a bond slave who cannot enjoy any blessings or benefits from the father. How sad!

So demonstrate you sonship by allowing yourself to endure discipline from your father so that you can fully enjoy all the blessings of your Heavenly Father in Christ Jesus. Amen!

Prayer/Declaration
Heavenly Father, I thank you for making me a son in your kingdom. I declare that l'm filled with all grace as a son to endure discipline and I'm blessed in all my dealings in Jesus name. Amen!
