THE SUBSTANCE OF GRACE

"And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth." (John 1:14, KJV)

We've seen that grace is the influence of God in our hearts and its reflection in our lives and that it was given to us as unmerited favour, which is favour that we did not deserve because we didn't and couldn't work for it.

Now, this influence is not merely something that is abstract but it is something tangible which can be seen and felt. Thus, grace has substance and this is the gift which was given to us by God, by which He interacts or relates with us or influences us for it to be manifest in our lives.

Now what is this particular substance or gift which God gave to us through Jesus Christ as this grace? It is still the person of our Lord Jesus Christ dwelling in our hearts as our salvation and of course the gift of God (Eph 3:7, Eph 2:8'9), whom we received as the Word of God. Thus, in John 1:14, Apostle John declares that the Word was made flesh and dwelled among us and we beheld His glory as the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. Thus, John notes that grace in its fullness or complete sense is the Word of God manifest in the flesh, which is truth, which is the person of Jesus Christ (John 14:6), whom we have received in our spirits as our salvation. And this makes Jesus Christ the very substance of gift  of the grace of God in us.

Prayer/Confession

Heavenly Father I thank you for the substance of Your grace in me which is Jesus Christ my Lord and Savior. I declare that this grace in me is fully manifest in every area of my life. Amen!
