COMMON GRACE
That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust." (Matthew 5:45, KJV)
Most times people ask, why good things happen to bad people and bad things happen to good people or why do the unjust do well and the just seems not to do well. Whiles I will answer the question of why sometimes the just seem not to do well in another devotion, I want to help us with the reason why the just also do well.
The answer is what we refer to as "common grace," which is the grace which God has embedded into nature as part of His natural principles which govern and preserve the universe.
This is God's act of kindness unto all men and the entire universe which He created for Himself and so love irrespective of their state whether good or bad, saved or unsaved, righteous or unrighteous, or what ever state they may find themselves in.
And it is this grace or act of kindness that our Lord Jesus Christ referred to in our devotional text that God causes his sun to rise upon both the evil and the good, and also send His rain upon both the just and the unjust. And by so doing He remains faithful even unto His universe which He created and has loved from the very day He created it, just as the gospel of John also affirms that "For God so loved the world..." (John 3:16) Glory to God! Hallelujah!
Prayer/Confession
Heavenly Father I thank you for your grace even for the entire universe, by virtue of which you extend your kindness unto all men. I take full advantage of this grace which you have embedded in the universe and reign in every area of my life in Jesus name. Amen!
