EXERCISE YOURSELF UNTO GODL...
EXERCISE YOURSELF UNTO GODLINESS
"But refuse profane and old wives' fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness." (1 Timothy 4:7 KJV)
Godliness refers to the outward show of our Christian faith. That is the things that we do to show or demonstrate that indeed we have faith in God. It is the practical demonstration of our inner piety.
This includes personal study of your Bible, praying, fasting, giving, attending Church services, embarking on evangelism, following up on new comers, visiting others, diligence in your business, etc. Everything that we do that proves to others that we are children of God forms part of our godliness.
And the word if God says we should not engage in old wives fables, but rather exercise ourselves unto godliness. Hallelujah!
So God wants us to demonstrate our inner piety or faith through our works of godliness. Many Christians think that being diligent in these things is just for pastors or leaders of the church. But it is not so, godliness is something that every child of God must exercise himself or herself in.
And this is not something that just happens by chance but something that you intentionally plan and engage in. This is why the word says 'exercise' yourself in it. It implies that you will have to put in some effort to it and the more you practice it, the more you become effective in the same.
So from today make up your mind to be consistent with your practice of godliness to the glory of God in Jesus name. Amen!
