HONOUR THROUGH OBEDIENCE
"Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered" (Hebrews 5:8 KJV)
We've learnt that sons are to honour their father, and the honour that sons give to their father is not based on fear but love. Hallelujah!
And this same principle applies to the obedience that a son is to have for his father. Obeying your father is not merely based on fear, but love and by such obedience you show your honour unto the father.
In actual sense the fundamental way that any son can demonstrate his honour unto his father is by absolutely obeying his father.
Thank God for all other ways by which a son can honour his father, but the most fundamental way is for the son to obey his father. That is what brings the father greatest delight.
And our devotional text makes us to understand that even our Lord Jesus Christ learnt how to obey His Father through the things He suffered. Very intriguing, that even our Lord Jesus Christ Himself had to learn obedience. But the key thing is not merely that He learnt obedience, but the significance of that obedience in His relationship with the Father.
Because the best way to honour His Father, was by His obedience, our Lord Jesus Christ intentionally learnt how to obey. And don't be surprised by this, because what the Son had never experienced throughout eternity was what the father demanded of Him, being separated from Him for a while because of the sins of humanity. And it was not easy for the Son, because it had never happened before and it was going to be the most painful experience of the Son. But He had to do it as His honour to His father.
And as sons of God, we are also called to obey our Father as a demonstration of our honour unto Him. Glory to God! Hallelujah!
Prayer/Declaration
Heavenly Father, I thank You for the insight You have given me concerning obedience and the honour of my father. I declare that I honour my father through my absolute obedience of him and I'm blessed in all my dealings in Jesus name. Amen!
