LIMITED GRACE
"But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord." (Genesis 6:8, KJV)
One erroneous understanding that people have had concerning the Old Testament is that grace was not available then. But without grace no man could have ever related with God. For all of God's dealing with humanity has been by grace, which is God drawing man unto himself, just as we see from the account of Noah in our devotional text.
But the reason for this understanding is that in the Old Testament the grace of God was highly limited as compared to the New Testament era.
Thus, in the Old Testament what they enjoyed was "limited grace" which brought them into a certain relationship with God, but they could not enjoy the fullness of God's grace, as we have it in the New Testament, because the issue of sin had not been dealt with.
This was why God told Moses in Exodus 33:20, that no man can see His glory or face and live. For the glory or face of God would consume the sin nature of any man that ever saw His glory or face. But after the sacrificial death of Christ and His resurrection, it became possible, not only for man to behold the face of God, but for God to become resident in the heart of men. Glory to God! Hallelujah!
Prayer/Confession
Heavenly Father, I thank you for Your work of grace throughout the history of humanity. I declare that your grace abounds for me in Jesus name. Amen!
