SONS HONOUR THEIR FATHER
"A son honoureth his father, and a servant his master: if then I be a father, where is mine honour? and if I be a master, where is my fear? saith the Lord of hosts unto you, O priests, that despise my name. And ye say, Wherein have we despised thy name." (Malachi 1:6 KJV)
We saw yesterday that one of the things that negatively affects the relationship of the son with his father is when the son begins to despise his father.
Thus, a son is not supposed to despise his father. And while a son is to avoid his despise of his father, he must ensure that on the other hand he actually honours him. Hallelujah!
This is why in our devotional text for today, God rhetorically asked the priests of Israel, that if He is their Father, where is His honour and If He is their Master, where is His fear. Hallelujah!
This implies that a son is supposed to actively honour his father. And this is another thing that distinguishes the father-son relationship from all other relationships, especially that of a master and a servant.
So the way a son shows his true sonship to his father is by lovingly honouring him. This honour is void of fear but full of love. You don't honour your father because you are afraid of him. Rather you honour him because you love him. And this is also why, a son should not wait for the father to demand honour from him before he gives it, but must be proactive in doing so. And he must do so as his response unto the love of the father. Glory to God! Hallelujah!
Prayer/Declaration
Heavenly Father, I thank You for teaching me the significance of honouring my father, as a son. I declare that I'm filled with all grace to honour my father, and I'm blest by the same in Jesus name. Amen!
