THE HALLMARK OF A TRUE SON
If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?" (Hebrews 12:7KJV)
Yesterday we saw that one of the ways that God the Father demonstrates His love for us in our walk with Him is through chastisement or discipline. And this is also one of the ways that every loving Father relates with His loving son or daughter.
Today's devotion strengthens that argument by saying that if we endure chastening, then God deals with us as with sons. After that, the word ask that rhetoric question: "for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?" In order words is there any son that the father does not chastise or discipline? This implying that there is no son whom the father does not discipline.
Thus, if you cannot endure discipline, you are not a son. But if you are a son, the word says you endure discipline. Thus, the hallmark or distinguishing characteristics of a son or daughter is his or her ability to endure chastisement or discipline. So the question is, are you a son or a daughter? Are you able to endure discipline? And what is usually your responds when you are disciplined?
The word of God says, if we endure chastening, God deals with us as sons. Thus, if you are not able to endure chastening or discipline, the Lord cannot deal with you as sons. At best He may deal with you as a mere child or servant. And the word of God say the heir as long as he is a child does not differ from a servant even though he is lord of all (Galatians 4:1)
In other words until you come to the level where you can behave as a son or endure discipline there are things that you may not be able to enjoy in Christ because the father cannot entrust important things which are ordained for your glory into your hands. So make up your mind to endure chastisement as a son and see the father commit valuable resources into your hands in Jesus name. Amen!
