THE PURPOSE OF COMMON GRACE

"Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance? (Romans 2:4, KJV)

We saw yesterday that God shows His goodness or kindness unto both the just and the unjust, to both the righteous and the righteous, to both the good and the wicked, and this goodness which is also incorporated into nature which anybody at all can enjoy is what is referred to as "common grace"

Now wheras some people have taken undue advantage of this goodness of God and some have even judged that these things happen to them by chance or are just part of nature or normal course of events, the word of God makes us to know the main reason for this common grace or God's kindness unto all men, especially the unsaved.

Thus, our devotional text declares that the purpose of God's goodness unto the unsaved, unjust, sinners, the wicked is for that goodness to  lead them unto repentance. Thus, as people enjoy common grace in their sinful state, it should minister the love of God unto them so that they can respond unto that love and accept His Son, Jesus Christ who is the substance of that love into their heart for their redemption

Thus, as people enjoy the goodness of nature, they should not despise God nor His goodness, but see the Himas the source and the one behind all that goodness and respond unto Him for their redemption in Jesus name. Amen!

Prayer/Confession Heavenly Father, I thank you for revealing unto me the purpose of Your common grace for men, which is to lead men unto repentance. I declare that this purpose is fulfilled in the lives of all those who have not yet received salvation and they recognize You as the source of all that goodness and receive salvation into their hearts in Jesus name. Amen!
