WEIGHT
"Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us" (Hebrews 12:1 KJV)
We saw the last time that the common understanding of this scripture is that it actually identifies two things which slow us down in our race of life or destiny, which are sin and weight.
And we saw that whiles sin is anything that we do that is not approved by God, weight may not be necessarily something wrong in the sight of God, but with respect to you it can affect you and hinder your own progress.
But a critical look at the scripture again also communicates something very puzzling. The author says we should lay aside every weight and sin that so easily beset us. Now "and" used in this scripture is from the Greek word 'kai' which is usually used to lay emphasis. And this is how it has been mostly used in the New Testament.
Thus, the author says we should lay aside every weight, even the sin that so easily beset us. Thus from this understanding, the weight is the sin that easily beset or trouble us. It being that thing that you do that seems to discourage you from pursuing the agenda of God or running that race that has been set for you. The things that kill your passion for the things of God and sometimes tends to make you feel inferior or just discouraged in your walk with God.
This is what the author wants us to put aside and we can only do this by the grace of God in Jesus name. Amen!
Prayer/Declaration
Heavenly Father, I thank You for Your grace that superabounds for me. I declare that by this grace I put aside every weight even the sin that easily beset me and run with patience the race that You have set for me in Jesus name. Amen!
